7 Boston Dynamics Walking Robots of the Apocalypse
Remember the Terminator movies? Well, the good ones, the first two. It told of an indestructible robot sent from the future to take out a woman whose unborn son could be the key to winning a robot uprising war. Well, when I see the current lineup of Boston Dynamics walking robots, I can’t help but think of the T-800 android played by sir Arnold Schwarzenegger.
But besides my paranoia, these machines are a true work of art. The spot mini has the ability to have a mechanical mounted arm attached to it to open doors and pick up items and the atlas is so lifelike that it can walk on two legs, jump and perform a back-flip! Freaky! So be afraid, or be amazed, either way, the robot revolution is here to stay.
1.) *Previously Spot (updated)
This four legged robot can operate in or outdoors and has an excellent sense of its environment.
2.) Spot (previously Spot Mini)
One of the quietest robots in Boston Dynamics lineup, the spot mini is an offshoot of the Spot and is nimble enough to climb stairs and walk in tight spaces.
3.) Atlas
Atlas, the world’s most dynamic humanoid robot can walk and balance himself just like a human can. It can even do a backfilp. I can’t even do a backflip.
4.) LS3
The LS3 is the muscle of the group, able to carry heavy loads or rough types of terrain.
5.) WildCat
What’s cooler than a cheetah? How about a metal cheetah?. The WildCat is the world’s fastest quadruped robot around. Can you imagine being chased by this thing?
6.) BigDog
The BigDog is another advanced rough terrain robot that is similar to the LS3 but has a different outward appearance designed to absorb shock like a real animal.
7.) RHex
Technically the RHex doesn’t walk like the other robots but it does have leg like appendages that it uses to move around on. So, I put it on the list.
